(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had chickens as a kid and wanted to share the experience with my kids. My daughter has taken to the idea so here we are!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We built a coop that can handle 8 but I have limited us to 6 hens.... (for now)
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have Columbian Rock, Plymouth Rock, Leghorn, two Welsummer, and an Ameraucana.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
No shortage of entertainment and helps with many teaching opportunities for kids.... there is also the benefits of the "secret" conversations we all have with chickens when nobody else can hear you...
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Family, Hunting, Fishing, Geocaching, SxS, photography and gaming
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Well... we're a family of 5, one dog (glorified rat), one cat (the ruler), and now 6 hens. My wife and I are both professionals. My daughter had taken to the idea of chickens so naturally, Dad got to work to provide ...
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
BYC poped up with answers to most of my searches (even if most are USA references and we are in Canada) ... most responses here at BYC are family friendly and seem genuine. Thats something we require just starting out as hen providers, so figured we would climb aboard.
