I’m allowed to have hens and not roosters where I live. I have a friend who has raised chickens and rabbits and he’s given our family eggs in the past and they are great
during this shut in COvid time I thought I should give it a go. Built a brood and have three Black Australorps. I live in Phx Az. We ordered a coop that should be enough for our three birds. Alll is going well until. I put the birds in the coop. Just temporary they are only two weeks old and not ready for the coop. Anyway we put them in the coop in the Yard to introduce them to my hunting bird dogs. Hoping a little controlled visits everyday will get the dogs used to the birds and they will learn these aren’t the birds we hunt. Well it went very poorly. maybe shame on me. Any advice on introducing dogs to birds

I'm new too! We can learn together!
My 3 gals are about 3 weeks old. I have a Russell Terrier and we have VERY controlled visits. I will NEVER trust her alone with them but she's very interested and lays by the door to the room they are in. Not sure if it's even worth the effort but after 2 weeks she doesn't snap or cry when she looks at them. Again, will never trust her with them because of her high prey drive. Once they are outside, their coop and run will be tightly locked down.

Thank you all. Our coop will be secure once birds are in the back yard but my dogs live there too. The dogs a smart. And know my commands from hunting. I’m hoping what I use when they get on rabbit sent in the field can be used to tell these are not the birds to hunt. I’m hoping time gets them comfortable. We love these little birds and are so surprised at their individual personalities. I never knew. We want to make this work. The girls are Thelma Anne Louise Thelma is dominant and strong. Louise is curious and active Anne is so gentle and wants to be held. We hope as they get bigger the dogs will be less aggressive. Should we spend maybe 30 min a day working with the birds in the coop and dogs on leash working “Leave it”!
