Hi I have ordered 47 day old chicks all hens and they will be delivered sept 9th. I was planning on in the future of breeding my own i was wondering would it be better to get 1 or 2 roos with my sept 9th order or wait till they are older and get a grown one?????

You're ordering day old chicks and they're all supposed to be hens? I'd hold off on ordering a cockerel just now; chances are at least one of your hens will turn out to be a boy...

i know not all sexing is 100% right but my friends and parents ordered from this hatchery and they have never had a problem. But that you I was just wondering because i don't wanna wait too long incase the hen decide to pick on the young male.

I, personally, would add a couple roos to the order...if you know what you want.

If you have a reputable place to get an adult roo from later, that would be fine too...I have just heard some horror stories of people getting older chicken and having a lot of issues with them.

I like having roos around to protect the ladies.

I would add at least 4 roosters (i think dont quote me on any of this though) Because if i recall right 1 rooster for every 10-12 hens but like i said dont quote me on this lol

ty guys and yes protecting the girls would be a good reason to have them. I was thinking of just getting one cuz i don/t want firtel eggs coming out my you know what but i wanna be able to put a girl in with the roo and be able to get some hatching eggs to try my luck with and incubator once and then if it don't work out just let the hen do all the work.
