Roo's Or Hens?

thanks everyone. We have a lady in our town that just had some RIR chicks hatch Thur. We are considering getting 4 of them.Could you PLEASE tell me how to choose hens.6 roo's is not the start to my flock that I wanted.
Guess i better start looking for good homes for some of them

If you're going to mix new chicks in with the ones you have, they should all be around the same age or you may well have pecking problems (and like someone said earlier, the ones you have now need a bigger brooder).
Isn't there anyplace you can buy sexed chicks? It's not something you're going to be able to do yourself on RIRs, takes an expert and even then it's not 100%....What are you going to do with all those roos? You can't have that many in a small flock...

I'd look around for sexed chicks. Ask at feed stores. Or fins someone hatching sex-linked chicks like Cinnamon Queen or Red Star or Black Star, so you're SURE of what you're getting. It's too bad your kids have gotten attached to some you'll need to re-home. Good luck.
