Roost bar design??

We will be finishing our coop construction this week end. Does the roost bars HAVE to be round, or can I use something like a square 2x2 for roostin bars?

you can use something square.. My girls roost on a 2X4, and a 1x3 piece of pine. In my new coop we are using 2x2's!

We just use 2x4's with the 4" side up for them to sit on.

like some one said 2x4 with the 4 side up is the way to go it is better for there feet. they don't have to grasp it they can just sit and cover there feet with there feathers when it gets cold so they don't get frostbite on there toes.

I used a 2x4 also, but I ripped it down to a true 3"'s and then took a rasp and smoothed out the edge on the new cut. 3" side up.

We used banister railing that is flat on the top and the edges are rounded. They are splinter free and don't need sanding.
