roost bars

Good afternoon everyone. I have another newbie question, is it ok to use 2 by 2's for the roosting bars? I have 2 hens that just started laying and 5 babies that are 2 months. Thanks for the info...

2x4's laid wide side flat make a better roost - wide enough to rest on comfortably, and they can pull their feet up underneath their feathers to keep then warm.
