Roost design

Sounds like she is avoiding being pecked as she is low in the order.
This could be the case since she is kind of the outcast right now sadly. We got two pullets at the same time one a ordinary EE and her a GLW and she seems to be picked on more than the EE. The weird thing is that if she is on the bar she doesn't mind the other birds and they leave her alone. if she was to get on the other bar the other chickens backs would be to her and would leave her alone.

I don't understand how people's perches get mucky.

Except when VERY young chicks play on the adults perches all poop lands underneath. I never have to clean poop off perches.

See how their backsides hang down below the branches?
Whenever I scrape poop off the roosts, at least once a week, think of you saying this.
Not everyone's birds only sleep on the roosts, some birds spend time on the roosts at other times of the day.

I wonder why mine don't.

I see them up on a lot of the rest of the coop furniture at different times in the day, but almost never on the roosts -- except for the youngsters.

I vote for "you raised them to know better than to shit in their own bed"

As the older birds were my first layers... I didn't know this was something that had to be taught  I will add it to the lesson plan on the next bunch.

They also walk around, sometimes face in a different direction, sometimes even sleep standing up.

About perches & distance from the wall...I made mine 15 inches away. I believe the chickens have invented a game & play it almost daily. The game is either called "Projectile Poop" or "Ready, Aim, Fire & Hit the Fly on the Wall"

I'm going to offer them more of a challenge. All Perches will be revamped this coming Spring...20 inches away from walls & other perches. 💩 20200830_193548.jpg 20200927_175744.jpg 20200927_175855.jpg

Thats strange to me, lol, poop on the wall? My chickens poop is always on the floor underneath their roost spot. I can always tell where everyone slept. Well i suppose i must have trained them better. 😆🤣🐓❤️
I wish I could figure out who the culprits are, but every fluffy butt is clean! 😆

Did someone say Fluffy Butt?!?!?! My absolute favorite is a fluffy butt! I can stare all day only imagining what that fluff feels like. My gals are on a Look but Dont Touch vibe. My first flock; i knew i shoulda handled them more! I was too scared I would hurt someone! You BYC pros should have told me to go hold those babies and remove the 'do not disturb' sign from the living room wall. 🤣
