How much room should there be between the ceiling of the coop and the roost? Our coop will be 42" in the back, 48" in the front (and raised 24"). At what height above the floor should I plan to put the roost to leave the chickens (currently bantams but would like to plan for full size chickens just in case) enough head room. It will be well ventilated, but hopefully not too drafty at the top, as we live in a warm climate.

I would leave at least 18 inches of head room, and I would leave at least 18 inches below the roosts or dropping board, if you're using one. If it was strictly bantams, it could be less, but since you're talking possible LF in the future... Good luck!

Thanks, we reworked the design for the side today to allow for 18" head room over the roost. Good to get these things designed correctly (hopefully!) the first time.

Measure from the top of your chickens head to the bottom of their feet. That's how mush space to leave.
