I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this, but I thought I'd share the idea anyway!

We wanted to give the chicks an opportunity to "practice" roosting in the brooder, but couldn't figure out how to mount it. The chicks (now about three-weeks old) are in a extra-large plastic bin (see-through Rubbermaid-type...). We used one of those spring-tension curtain rods and placed it in the center, snuggly against the side walls. It seems a little slippery, so then we wrapped some masking tape around the whole rod and tried again. It works great and the chicks love it!

Someone out here said they put a couple pieces of old firewood in and they play king of the hill on it. I tried that and the chicks have a ball with it.

Great idea! I was attempting to come up with some sort of roost this morning. I ended up strategically placing study sticks on top of each other. I love the curtain rod idea! I'm going to try that!

We have branch in there too, but they keep burying it in the shavings. This one is suspended so they can actually hop up and sit there. One night the BA slept up there! Very cute!
