Roost question for standerd breeds.

Here are pics of my roosts for you. The top rungs that are so rounded were from a heavy pallet and the rest, as you can see, are 2x4's:

speckledhen,
WOW that is nice, You are giving me ideas. That s so cool. I use linoleum on mine too. Hey looks like she likes it and that is all that matters.

Seriously I like that, you did a great job. I have two roosts and I really think they would rather be on the same roost together, right now they are split. I never thought of doing it that way, it would work I like the legs on the bottom, I have plenty of wood for the sides but I do like the rustic look of the branches, but that is just me.

Roosts of 2 x 4s with the flat side up are preferred. Even better if the edges are rounded off a bit. It's not just to keep their feet warm but it gives the chickens a roost that they can wrap their toes around to balance & rest on.

With roosts, it's good to go back and think like a chicken. "If I were a chicken I would much prefer to have a nice rounded 3 1/2 " surface to wrap my little chicken feet around when I went to sleep at night."
