I am building a new and better coop. It is going to have 3 roosts. I have a mixed flock ranging from rather large chickens to bantams. I would like to make 3 different width roosts. what would be 3 good widths that should make everyone happy. I was thinking 7", 10" and 12" but am really not sure... Would love some suggestions.

Standard breed chickens should have 6-10 inches of liner space per bird. Bantams should have 2-3 inches. Error on the upside if possible. Ducks and meat chickens should not be raised with perches in the house. If you have heavier chickens and/or roosters, then make your perches lower in order to help prevent leg problems and bumblefoot.

I would make all the roosts about the same size. Chickens will roost in the highest place they can get to, and the pecking order also influences where they will roost. You may find your custom roosts are not necessarily utilized by the birds you intended them for.

(although it's a neat idea)
