Hi there we are almost finished with our coop.
I have a couple of questions about the roosts.
How far up off the floor of the coop should they be?
And, how much roost board space is needed for each chicken?

Thanks in advance for the help!!

I have seen a few builds and they are all differant. You can go 12" 18" 24" some people put 2 levels in some put 3 or just 1. As for space I have read 10 to 12 inchs per hen. I think the more space the better. If they want to all huddle together fine but I would rather have to much room than to little.

30" to 36" is a good height for the roost for standard sized chickens. If you have heavy breeds, provide a ladder for them to get up. 8" to 10" inches per bird is a nice length. Again, this is for standard sized chickens.

Make sure that no matter what height your roost, the nests need to be at least 12" lower to discourage sleeping in them. A nest that is slept in, will be very poopy and cause you to have messy eggs.
