Roost Spacing of chickens

My coop was the same size. Last winter, it was really tight for six pullets. I added a second and a half floors. The ground floor is the dining and family room. The second story houses the egg boxes and the living room. The half floor on top houses the roosts. They seem a lot happier now. We do get snow and ice here, so the girls are cooped up quite a bit.
i was actually thinking i would add on to the bottom because i have it elevated 3ft it would give a lot of extra space.

It worked well for us. The girls have a little ramp into the bottom for access to the coop. They also have a door to the living room. That way i can close off the food at night. Their food stays dry. I have access doors to all three levels and the egg boxes. Was a lot of work, but it made us happy.

Do you have a coop page or build thread that you could link here?
Would love to see this multi-storied coop.

Okay i will take out the third one out, is 2ft too high? yes i was totally kidding that would probably basically be animal abuse. sorry if i scared you with my joke :)
The lower the better with the small space.
Was pretty sure you were kidding, but always good to check

I agree with @aart If you remove one roost you will still have enough roost length for all your birds and you can position them so it is easier for them to get up/down. I'm not sure your climate, but it sounds as if you have just enough space for the birds you have but would not recommend adding more without an addition to your coop.

i will remove one so they can all fly up easily. now i am considering actually building a downstairs for the chickens next year.

I have 9 feet of roosting space.
One 2x4 at three feet height and the other at 5.6 feet.
Three 29 week old BO and two 7 week old chicks. they are as of yesterday all using the high roosting bar. I think the abundance of roosting space helped the young chicks intergrade.
