Roost????

I used 2" round dowels in my coop. My Chickens have been using them at night. Reading a lot of post on here about the winter and see people saying to use flat roosts(like 2*4). What is better?

Hi there. I use Round hazel bout inch and a half in diameter.

Comes from coppiced hazel so varies a bit in diameter. I have over 300 birds and they are all fine on it.

Interestingly when i started out many years ago an old timer told me never to use flat perches.

I suspect that as long as they have rounded edges and are strong enough to support the birds ( i have some quite large ladies.) without breaking that will be fine.
