We have an Australorp rooster named Bob and four Red Star hens. One has been off on her own for a good bit of time. For the past three nights, she didn't go to the henhouse, and we had to find her. Now, we know why. My husband observed Bob go into the Lowe's shed after this hen and hassle her. While he was mounting her, one of the other hens pecked at her. I caught her this morning and noticed a slightly bald spot on her head. I read that Anti Feather Pecking Spray is supposed to help with this. Is that true? Any other suggestions?

There are always conversations going on here about pecking and solutions. Some people like Peck-no-more - I've tried it and had no success. I've tried blu-kote and found it only works when the pecking is to a wound. Some will tell you to remove the peckER from the flock for a week or so in an attempt to break the cycle and to knock them lower in the pecking order. Good luck! I've got a couple of girls with bare necks in the front right now...I've given up.

Thank you for the response. I read on another website to put Flock Block in the coop (so they have something to peck at) and to hang fresh veggies in the coop. Putting Bob in time-out is a definite possibility. We have a chicken tractor complete so could isolate him. I am also going to give the anti pecking spray a shot and will let you know on this post.
