Rooster acting aggressive

Given that he has already attacked 2 people, why is he even allowed free access to the house? Why is he even in the house in the first place and not in a coop with his own kind? He does NOT belong in your lap! Do you have any other chickens?

I think that your roo needs to be outside in a run where he cannot hurt anyone. I had a rooster.. as a chick, he was very sweet and would sleep in my lap. At about 4 months old, he began to threaten and attack me. I knew that it would only get worse, so... my husband took him away. I am sorry but, your roo should be kept outside or be rehomed or in freezer camp.

Mama here. Now that I have almost fully recovered from my injuries, I want to add that I believe this uncharacteristic behavior is a result of our taking in the neighbor's rooster for a week while he recovered from frostbite. We brought him back home yesterday. The two eyed each other for a few days, but outdoor roo was too ill to do much. After a few days they started pacing around either side of the cage and pecking at each other. Our current plan is to keep Finn on a tight leash (so to speak) for the next few days and see if the behavior improves. He's usually sweet and likes to play with the puppy, but for a few days he's been a real jerk. We are just going to have to wait and see how it goes over the next few days and hope for the best.

Keesmom: We have no other chickens. Finn escaped from the neighbor's farm when he was about 2 weeks old and we kept him as a pet. We did lots of research and found that many people have keep a chicken or rooster as a single house pet with success. I should point out that the "attacks" are pecks on the ankles and thereabouts. He got me last night and it did draw blood, so understand that I am not excusing his actions. I just felt the need to say that it has happened a total of 3 times in the last week. It is unlike his normal self to act this way which is why my daughter posted here looking for some advice. I guess not many here keep them indoors as house pets.

My daughter is a child who loves her pet, but at the same time she is aware that if this behavior escalates, or even continues than appropriate actions will have to be taken. But until recently, he was a sweet, spoiled brat who likes sitting on laps, getting baths and pecking at one end of a puppy toy while the puppy chewed the other.

Anyway, he doesn't look like he would make a good stew or soup at all.

Also, this picture is about a week before he started fighting us. Jackie was laying on her back pawing at his face and nibbling on his beak while he was just standing there letting her.

Thank you!

Today I tried some basic training, like hand-feeding him so he knows I'm not a rooster. The first few times he did his "sideways walk" at me and bit my hand. He then got the hang of it and started eating. That's the only thing he did today, thank god. I bring him everywhere with me so he doesn't try to fight the dogs or my mom again. Right now he is sitting on my lap pecking at the keyboard as I'm trying to type this! I think it will all be ok in a month or so.
