hi, I had to take my rooster with me from farm to apartment. I need to treat him against mites with medications for a few days and Jeep him away from that farm environment, which is why I took him with me in apt. Can I leave him home alone with food and water while I’m arbor work for the day? Thank you, Claudia

Its not gonna hurt the rooster. With food, water and shelter a chicken will do fine.
What's your neighbors going to think? Doesn't he crow?

Do you have a cage for him? Otherwise, you are going to have a huge mess on your hands, and no telling what kind of trouble he can cause.

Agree with RWise. If he were my bird I'd have left him with the rest of the flock, and treated them and their housing for mites. Treating for mites is a lengthy, difficult process. You must completely clean out their coop, destroy the litter, treat the birds AND the coop, and repeat the process again in 7 - 10 days.

Thank you so much for your kind responses. Long story behind why treating only him instead of the entire flock... they were all handraised in apt, then moved them to a farm, but this farm is all infested, and I can only "save" him by taking him temporarily in my apt until I move to a house (in next 2-3 months).

I have a dog crate which I plan to install this PM. I also have a no-crow collard which just got delivered by Amazon and will be placing it around his neck this afternoon. This morning he woke me up (and the entire complex) at 5am crowing lol.

The poor thing is full of mites - scale mites all over his legs and between claws (he keeps pecking), all around his tail feathers, all around his wings, his butt is all swollen, featherless, red and yucky. He is my baby and I don't want him to die.

Thank you all so much for all your very helpful and thoughtful comments. There he is - last night, falling asleep on my couch. He's still kind of confused but quiet and sits in one corner sleeping on his two feet.

Ya I think that's going to be your issue and needs to be takin more serious.
LOL huh? Bet your neighbors weren't LOL.
You could end up moving quicker then expected and/or lose your rooster.
IMO no crow collars are horrible. They don't stop crowing and could very easily kill your bird. I'd take fitting and using one very serious to.
Honestly don't think if properly fitted even that your neighbors aren't still gonna be woken up very early every morning.
Good luck.

Wow, you're a very caring person to take him into your apartment to treat him, do take care that you don't get infested yourself. As for the collar, they don't work well and he won't be happy. My personal advice, put your television on the discovery channel or play chicken videos for him and for crowing camouflage and don't distress him further with the collar. :)

Oh no transferring mice from rooster to human def. does not sound fun! Thank you for the heads-up. And by the way, we just came back from the vet and discovered he also had lice! And one lice was actually walking on his comb; so vet recommended to spray with pyrethrins. He has lice eggs at the bottom of his feathers all over his vent and vet suggested plucking those out... OMG my poor baby...

Thank you again so much for all your suggestions.
