Rooster Anatomy Whats That????

    I picked up one of my roos and his tail feathers fell forward towards his head. I saw this 1/2 inch long pointy thing on his back above his tail! SOOOOoo I grabbed the other roo, same thing on him SOOOoo what is it?? Hope this is in the correct catagory I couldnt figure out where to put my question. Thanks!

    I think what you're seeing is the preen gland that chickens use when they are grooming themselves. They get the oil from there and then distribute it throughout their feathers.
