Hi, a friend of mine give me 1 serama rooster and 1 serama hen. The hen went broody yesterday and I put them on a cage. The nest is also there. My question is, should I separate the rooster? He is a good rooster though. He didn't harass the hen, he even pecked me when I touch the eggs. Is it possible that he will mate with the hen even if the hen is sitting on her eggs? I've read a lot of posts on facebook saying that some rooster mate with hen in the nest.

I would seperate them just to be safe. He'll probably try at some point, which will most likely upset her, which will make him feel like he needs to be more dominant so she submits. Maybe have it so they can see each other so they don't loose their bond, but I would definitely separate them.

I tried separating them yesterday. The hen started making noice like she is calling the rooster. She stand and leave her nest for a while. I don't know why, maybe she was not fully broody or not committed yet. Btw, today she laid her final egg.

But maybe if they could see each other?

The breed really doesn't matter - it is the rooster. Some are great, some are not. But a general consensus is that roosters usually do not bother broody hens, and some will help her raise them.
