rooster and laying feed

Awesome thread. Didn't take the roos into consideration. I'm feeding layer mixed in with left over starter. Considering switching to flock raiser and offering oyster shells. If a bucket of oyster shells is offered free choice do your roos munch on it anyway?
I don't have any roos, but I have read they may sample the oyster shell, but generally ignore it. GC

I do find the girls prefer egg shells. I rinse my egg shells & make sure they dry completely. Then crush them up. Store in a ziplock bag or mason jar. You can even mix a little into the oyster shell & let the girls choose what they prefer.

It's been my experience that they don't eat it. Neither will a pullet who hasn't reached the age of egg laying.

While "they say" that roosters should not eat layer feed, many folks have kept their flocks on nothing but layer feed for years. From my observation, roosters are often the healthiest members of almost all flocks, in spite of a life time of eating layer feed, and in spite of the fact that roosters never lay eggs.

yes i put my oyster shells on the ground they will peck it and pick it up but will just spit it out i want to go to all flock but i dont know if they will eat the oyster shells:confused::p
