I have a 15 week old Pekin bantam rooster who has been crowing for four weeks now. In my odd flock I also currently have a 15 week old Pekin pullet who was hatched with him, a year old asil hen who is currently sitting on a clutch of eggs away from the flock, an 18 month old asil hen, and a 16 week old silkie.
Now I was fairly convinced the silkie was a pullet from when she was a baby hatched with just one other silkie who was so different from her that they seemed to be obviously one male and one female. Also she is very timid and bottom of the pecking order.
The rooster tries it on with everyone lately, including the oldest asil hen who is very large and top chicken, and who is NOT impressed with his dance of love.
However: The silkie he does not court. The silkie he spreads his wings wide and runs at, pecking and biting her whenever he gets the chance. So what's going on? Why does he seem to dislike the silkie? Is the silkie actually a rooster??
