I have a RIR that needs a saddle because her back is bare & raw. When I put it on her the Rooster attack the saddle & the hen. Like she was an enemy. How can I get the Roo to accept the saddle? He has always been a nice guy & I don't know what to do. Please help.

I've often wondered if saddles don't cause more problems than they solve, one of the reasons being just what you've posted.

But lots of folks use them..so it must work out somehow.

Maybe segregate the rooster in an adjacent pen so he can see it but not touch it for a few days?
They can freak out when they see something new, but can calm quickly once it's been there awhile.

If you hen is over-mated, you might need to be rid of the rooster.

I'd suggest that you do some searching and alot of reading:
advanced search>titles only>hen saddles

I have a large pen with 2 coops. I call one the small coop the Nursery & is currently housing (4) 2.5 month old pullets. Since my RIR is bald & the skin is inflamed do you think I can isolate her with my 4 pullets in the Nursery? That way she have someone to cuddle with at night. What do you all think?
