Rooster beat up by his sons?

Wow,just wow.

Sorry this happened.Not much he can do being blind.I mean he can hear and everything,but is absolutely no protection to a hen.

I had a dad and son incident a few years ago.The father spurred both of the eyes of his son,We had shot him to try and put him outta misery.

I'd suggest just end it in the most human way if he can have either of his eye,if ones able to save then i'd keep em around but if neither are not,i'd just end it.

I would give it some time to see if he regains use of his eyes to any degree. It is up to you of course to decide what is best for him even if that means euthanasia. My condolences, this is a tragic situation.

I'm glad you were able to get vet care.

Please keep us posted on his progress and the course of treatment you will be following. This will be helpful to others.

I hope he recovers.

This has happened to my head rooster as well when I was too slow re-homing the younger cockerels. They basically just beat him up and ran him off from the rest during his molt when he was weak. Mine were only 4-5 months old. Sometimes the eyes can look swollen and it may be a week to figure out if his eyes are intact, or if they are blind. If he is blind, I would put him down. I would start picking the one I wanted to keep, because you will need to separate the rest of the cockerels permanently. I tried to keep 3 different breeding roosters one year, and it became a real headache for me to keep them in separate pens away from the flock. My idea of raising 3-4 different breeds became too much work and headache, and the hens also suffer through all of the chasing.On occasion, I have raised a cockerel who was meek and got to stay with his flock and father, but it doesn't happen often. Sorry about your rooster.

Oh my, the poor little guy :(:( I seriously want to cry right now for you. If it were me, I would save him and keep him forever apart from the other roosters. There are many chickens that are blind that can live happy, healthy lives. Here is a link to some information on caring for and examples of chickens that have made it and are blind - http://www.poultrydvm.com/condition/blindness

If she is using the rooster for something (Like protection),he is no more use,and as of right now is suffering.

We left the vet really hopeful for a full recovery but he unfortunately died just two hours after getting home. He was a good rooster, he played with my kids and was nice to my hens.

What breed are these roosters supposed to be? Show a picture of mother or sisters. If my suspicion is correct you are all going about this in very much the wrong way. End result will be more dead if you do not get proactive. Avoid being negligent.

@cnboscia

Rooster in images appears to be a game rooster / fighting chicken. Time to isolate males if that is correct. General care for males requires penning them separately or keeping them away from other roosters. Otherwise this will be repeated and will not be far down the road before it does. Otherwise, such roosters make exceptional pets, as do the hens.
