I have too many cockerels (I think 10 so far), but I want to grow most of them out to see what they become. I don't, however, want my pullets to be continually harassed, and I only have 4 adult hens so it doesn't seem very nice to make them deal with all of the teenage shenanigans. I'm considering moving all of the boys into a bachelor pad. At what age would they be past the most annoying stage, or at what age will the pullets be mature enough to not tolerate abuse? I won't put them all back in with the girls, but if one or two seem worthy I might let them join the girls eventually.
My main flock will have a huge enclosed run. But I'm guessing that if I keep a bachelor flock, I won't be able to free range them as they'd probably find their way to the run and cause trouble with each other and any roos in there. Is that a correct assumption?
Now I need to get some good pictures... Anybody looking for OEGB cockerels??
Thank you!
