Is there a link between the breed of a rooster and its behavior? Is there a breed of rooster that tends to be more aggressive than others? And vis versa? Or does it very so much that it just depends on the individual rooster?

I am curious because I want to get a rooster for my hens so we can raise up some more layers, but I don't want to worry too much about the rooster attacking my kids when they collect eggs. The occasional peck is ok, but I don't want him to all out attack my kids every time they walk into the pen.

What are your experiences? I was thinking of getting a RIR to go with my barred rocks and then we will have black sexlink chicks. But I have heard both good and bad about the attitude of the RIR.

Thanks for your input.

The most human aggressive rooster that I have ever had was a RIR, but some of the very best that I have ever had have been RIR. If you can get a mature rooster of known temperament, that would be the way to go. Good luck in your selection.
