A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2-3 year old RIR roo. He is BIG gentle and a hit with his little under age flock. He never mounts the little girls and seems to be rather fond of the smaller younger pullets and my one other cockrel a cochin cross. He is also so far non human aggressive. I bought him from a rather unsanitary place where he was kept in a small coop with little to no outside access. The other night I was cleaning out the fridge and feeding left overs to the birds and the dog. I watched him make a funky noise along with a wierd head tilt shake wiggle thing. All the girls came running up. He then proceeded to run the ducks away from the smaller pullets and Fugly the cochin cross cockeral. He would go in to the hord and bring out a piece of food making a wierd noise then drop it in front of a smaller pullet or Fugly. Is this normal for him to actually FEED the babies? He seems so happy to have his own little flock and will walk around preening anything he deems needs it.

Aww our roo does that too, all the time actually, how nice.
