Rooster being mean to hens

I have a year and a half old rooster. I have him and a bantam roo. Each have their own hens and free range. The big rooster will attack the little roos hens if they get too close. he will also chase new pullets that i just got. i have never had a roo do this. he will literally peck and pull out feathers if they get in his space. what am i to do?

I would either keep them separate or get rid of the mean roo. I mean his job is to protect the hens and pullets, isn't it?

I agree, if he's not doing the job you want him to do, make stew. There are too many good roosters to put up with a sub par rooster.

I have decided thats what i am going to do. i have a very old bantam hen , real old, she got caught in a hay rack and when i found her she was almost dead and couldn't stand. i hand fed and watered her for weeks and kept in a big wire dog crate. she finally came around and fed herself but now, years later one leg has gotten more and more turned wrong. she stays up off the ground and i feed her and water her away from the others. if she happens to get on the ground that dang rooster jumps her and tried to mate. i kick him off before he kills her and the poor thing just hunkers down after i put he back up on stall walls. he is outta her if i have to take him to the sale on saturday. am running an ad right now. thanks for the input folks, i just joined today and you guys jumped right in to help.

I agree you should make a stew out of him if he aint doin his job!

Yep cull him! Roos can be had for free to $5 on CL, put him in a pot!
