rooster bit me

I was sitting in the cage of my sons white orpingtons and they were being very friendly ..I could pet them ...well I reached to pet the rooster and he was ok then all of a sudden he reached over and bit my finger...not pecked but bit a hunk of meat....did not bleed or anything I was just wondering why he done that

My guess is that he decided he'd rather NOT be petted

They can be like that sometimes... and some ALL the time
