My rooster was covered in blood yesterday on his left side. I investigated the coop and found nothing that could have caused it so I took him inside to rinse him off and get a better look. There is a big hole that looks like where a large flight feather used to be. I've tried cornstarch, plain flour and gauze. It'll stop bleeding for a little bit but it always ends up bleeding again, and bleeding a lot. I've seen some people say blue kote closes wounds and others say it's just for surface wounds. I was going to pull the feather but if it did break, it broke off inside where I can't see it. I don't know what to do. I just want to help my boy. I'm physically sick over it I feel so bad. He's in a kennel in my house right now covered in flour and gauze and sticky wrap to try to keep him from pecking at it. I tried to put an e collar on him but he won't keep it on. I'm at a loss and I'm so upset.

I think I might have gotten the bleeding to stop or at least slow down. I went and rinse him off again very well and even used some gentle puppy shampoo on him because he really is a mess right nowbecause he had started bleeding a lot again. I then held some clean gauze on the area and applied very firm pressure for several minutes and not much blood had come out. I did also notice the this time while I was drying him off it wasn't actively bleeding like it was all the other times. I sprayed him very well with vetericyn and then packed the hole with flour the best I could and put some gauze over it. I'm keeping his wing bandaged up against his body because it's the easiest way to make sure he isn't messing with it and then I put a dog shirt on him and brought him home and gave him some scrambled duck eggs. I have to tuck him into a towel in his kennel to keep him calm otherwise he thrashes around and I think that maybe causes him to start bleeding again as well. He's resting at the moment so I will check on him in a little while.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice to give. How is he doing today?
He was bleeding a little more last night so I changed his bandages again and put more pressure on the wound and it didn't bleed much on the gauze so I packed it with more flour and wrapped it up and it doesn't seem like he's bled very much since then. I got him some electrolytes and probiotics for an extra boost and have been feeding scrambled eggs. I have to keep a dog shirt on him which just happens to be a Hawaiian shirt and he looks so cute in it lol I had to go out but will check him again when I get home in a few hours and hopefully he'll still be doing well.

Good to hear he is still doing ok! ❤️ As long as he is eating he can't be feeling too bad about imself, even with the hawaiian shirt. 😁
