Rooster breeding with 10 week olds?

I have a 6 month old silkie rooster who this morning I caught breeding with one of my 10 week old frizzles. Poor thing was screaming its head off I thought something was killing it! He's been around them since they hatched and has always been very friendly and paid them no attention up until now. He has two other mature hens, but one of them does tend to put up a bit of a fight. He's usually very gentle with the older hens (which is why one bullies him a bit I think) so I want to keep him for breeding. Is this normal behaviour for him to be trying to mate with pullets that are so young?

It can be normal. I would remove him for a few months until the young ones mature more, and he does as well.

I'd separate him from the chicks until they are mature. Male fowl will breed a tree stump if that is all that is available.

Thanks for the advice I'll have to try and figure out a new configuration to keep them seperated. I usually have them all out free ranging in our backyard as we haven't been able to make them their own dedicated run yet.

Is this normal behaviour for him to be trying to mate with pullets that are so young?

It can be 'normal' but I'd not keep a male who did that.
