Roostroyer, a standard light brahma rooser, broke his spur today. The thing is, the spur is still attached toi the skin, but it feels loose, no longer attached to the bone. the spur did break off some skin from where it keeps bleeding whenever Roo bumps his spur, but I don't know how to treat this. He broke off his other spur a while ago, and it was a clean break, only the wound was left. this time the spur is still attached to most of the skin surrounding it, and I don't know if I should try and rip it off, let the rooster finish the work, or try and bandage his leg. He's not limping as of right now the dork is chasing his hens trying to mount them, so his wound doesn't seem to be that serious.

What can/should I do to deal with this spur issue? :(

Edit: he managed to break it off more so we could pull it off easily. There was only a hole left in his leg that I trated and bandaged. Will he be able to grow his spur back?

My rooster did the same thing once. He wanted to fight with the rooster on the other side of the fence, and apparently got his spur stuck on the fence and it came out clean.

That was 2 years ago, and no spur and arrived back since.

You should trim your roosters spurs every now and then. (I use a pair of pliers) If the spurs get long enough they can affect the rooster's walking and if they have very sharp ones they can badly injure/kill hens.

If they're small and pointy just get a pair of toenail clippers and cut the point off.

Good luck.
