Rooster cackling..?

So you know that buck buck baKa sound chickens make after they lay an egg? Well my four month ish Silkie rooster is making that sound every time I pick him up It's so funny. Is it him being startled? Is it him crying out for his favorite hen? What is he doing? I guess my hens cackle when there's a predatory animal near by, so is he warning the hens of me as a predator? On a side note, his crow is cute too.
