Hi. I’m new here and I joined hoping to find help in figuring out what is up with my rooster. I have a 16 week old Ameraucana cockerel named Blue. I thought I heard a sad little attempt at a crow last week but nothing since. I’ve been watching him and he struts around, stretches his neck and tries to crow but no sound comes out. He’ll do it over and over again but there’s nothing. Other than that he’s in good health. He has bright eyes, nice feathers and no noticeable change in behavior. He makes lots of other sounds. When I picked him up to check him over he had a lot to say about it! 😂 Do any of you know why he isn’t making any sound when he tries to crow? I’m stumped.

It will likely improve...
It could just be the usual young cockerel crow problems...I have had some pretty sad sounding crows. I did have a cockerel that always stuttered when he crowed. It was kinda cute.
I'd see how he sounds in a few weeks.

I didn’t know there were “usual young cockerel crow problems”! So there is a learning curve with crowing? He’s my first rooster. 😁 I sure hope he grows out of it. It’s sad to see him try so hard with no success.

They usually start off with not the greatest singing voice. It can be rather cute.
They definitely learn as they go along. And their voices change.
Then again, I've not had any be completely silent. Maybe he'll grow out of it.
