My 2 yr old Light Brahmin rooster got beat up by a Spangled Hamburg, head, comb & waddles bloody 3 wks ago, (the Spangled Hamburg was a free extra from the hatchery I did not know his breed until he grew, then he started getting agressive with the two Brahmin roosters, he is now removed to rooster heaven) My Brahmin was healing OK treated his wounds, then we had a cold/snow spell below 25 degrees, found him huddled in an outdoor shelter in the yard, very cold legs seemed frozen, not moving. No black frostbite on legs or comb. My husband brought him in the house and revived him in front of a heater, however he can not stand up, sticks his right front leg out in front. Called the hatchery, he was vaccinated as a chick for Mareks. We have had him in a crate in the house for four days, he eats, poops, drinks, however has no strength in his legs, and sits with leg out front. I pick him up and put the leg back under, it only stays for a short time, then he flops around and sticks it back out again.
Is there anything I can do? Are there natural pain meds for chickens, should he be on an anitbiotic? Read about Hypericum Perforatum 30x for pain, anybody tried it? No bird vets in the area. Could he be sick from the stress and trauma of being beat up, he hasn't acted the same since. I have a warm coop with heat lamp, hay on the floor, roosting rack, 45 hens, the two Brahmin roosters.
Can I use Clavamax antibiotics on my Roo??
Many thanks for any advice. Frankie the Roo, thanks you too!!
