Two nights ago I heard squawking in our chicken coop and ran out to find our two yr old EE rooster on the ground in the run with blood on his comb. All the hens were perched and nothing else was amiss. We picked him up and put him in a dog crate in the basement. I assumed that a raccoon or something had gotten in and we interrupted and the predator ran off, but I'm starting to think something is wrong with him and the hens pecked at him before perching for the night because I'm realizing now that he can't really walk. I thought he was just in shock and that's why he wasn't moving around much, but I've been able to examine him more closely now and he really can't bear weight on his legs. I laid him on his side and examined as best as I could. His legs are warm and there's no sign of injury or bumblefoot. When I set him on the grass he sort of scooted around using his wings for balance. He is eating and drinking and crowing and even ate some grass. Any ideas? Before we went to bed the other night he seemed fine.
