rooster chasing hubby

thank you for all of your replys I will have DH do some of the "retraining" techniques I hope they work. Also he did tell me that he olnly does the chasing when his back is to him not when he is looking right at him. do you think that makes a diff?

If the rooster is truly nasty and doesn't take the "hint" or the discipline immediately, I dispatch them.  End of story.  I don't want that trait passed on and keeping a rooster around here only means one thing.  Breeding, and we don't breed jerky roosters.  Everyone finds their own way on this matter.

X2

Exactly what I do. Especially with my free ranging flock. I have three kids ages 3,2, and 1 and I cannot have a mean roo around.

I have a mean roo as well. Ive never done the meat bird thing before... but hes getting quite close to being dinner. =/

I hope you have more luck with your Rocky.

Some event may have turned him man-aggressive. If target only husband, then either husband or somebody of similar appearance offended rooster at some point. I can create a man-fighter by abusing a rooster or repeatedly presenting myself as a threat to broody member of his harem or his offsrping. Some roosters can be every bit as protective as a broody hen.

To rectify, I would have husband put on a heavy pair of jeans and then slowly walk into rooster while NOT looking directly at rooster. Do not respond to rooster while doing so other than getting into his space. Initially you want rooster to flog husband but do not respond. If rooster wants flog from behind, let him, but do not respond. If rooster breaks off from attack then provide him target from closer range by walking into him, backwards if needed. Rooster will tire relatively quickly. He may not be all that smart but he will recognize futility. In the end I want rooster to consider me a little more than a moving object that is not a threat nor something that can be directed by roosters actions. Make rooster think you are simply a tree that moves. Getting flogged stings a little but so long as face or thin skin is not targeted no real damage is to be expected. It would be nice to have sequence of attacks filmed. If bird is cock with tipped spurs, then trim tips.

The 'D' depends on my mood at the moment. Some days it's D for Dear or Darling others it's D for D*MNED
