Rooster? Copper eggs? Lots of white on barred rock? What’s going on?!

What makes you say that?

If they are starting to lay eggs then they are probably between 16-24 weeks old. A rooster would have male specific feathers by now. I see none. And a cockerel comb at that size wouldn't flop over. And a cockerel at that point would be crowing and mounting the pullets. Plus when sexing BPR you also look at the barring. She had very dark barring. A cockerel would have very light barring. She is probably just a dominant hen, which would explain the large comb size.

There was never a cockerel.
One of the Marans is laying a nice copper egg.
There are no Barred Rocks. One of the Marans is some kind of mix.

100% agree....happened too many times to us. Always do it into a separate bowl now even if I know the eggs are fresh.

Ideally, collecting the eggs as soon as possible will eliminate the issue of heat.

This is what I do too!
Mostly because I collect guinea eggs that I’m not sure how old they are. Lol
It is a really good habit to have.
Plus, if you have dogs like I do they are more then happy to eat any “off” looking eggs(not smelly of course).

Hello! I bought these girls as chicks in early spring and I'm pretty sure one of the "girls" is a male, I just keep hoping it's not lol I also was wondering if the picture of the egg I posted is a normal color for them to be laying? I'm not sure who keeps laying them but I'm pretty sure it's not the buff orpington. And one more thing, I have a barred rock in the pics below that is very white on the upper half and was wondering if she could possibly be mixed with something else? My daughter named her Hedwig since she has so much white lol Thank you in advanced!

Just curious where you got them from? I got 4 barred rocks from tractor supply and I have a hen that’s chest looks just like that - very white and washed out. I assumed she was a mix. And yes the other is a point of lay hen. Here is a picture of a barred rock rooster and the second is the hen in front of him for comparison for you.

Good advice, I got my first egg yesterday from my blind hen Amber! She is a big girl now.

As for the BR listed above, looks like a black sex-link cockerel, but I'm confused as to why the pullet would have the same pattern, a black sex-link pullet would have orange barring, or be all black. Like Zelda, who is the perfect example of a brown and black chicken.

It makes sense that the OP's birds are Marans, not BR.
Marans lay a beautiful copper coloured egg, and they also have cream and grey feet. And the pattern is Marans, not BR.
