Went to the coop this afternoon to check on my five-week-old girls (and boys). Suddenly one of my little Barred Rock roosters crowed for the first time and scared the beejeebers out of all of us, even himself!! It sounded like an old screen door with squeeky rusted hinges just before it slams shut. Everyone scattered! Then he did it three more times just to be sure he was getting it right! It was soooo funny. I think he was really proud of himself. The other one just looked at him like "what the ???!!!"

Chickmate, are you going to chickenstock? And do I see 2 little barred rock roos there? I am looking for a Barred Rock Roo. Just wondering....if you are keeping both of them or already have plans for them. Let me know if you would like to get rid of one of them. I plan on attending Chickstock, so we could meet there if you are attending as well.
Thanks,
Denise

Denise - Yes, I am going to Chickenstock and yes, I do want to rehome one of my roos! I will bring him for you! I'm SO glad you asked, now I don't have to look for someone to take him. If I need to get him out before then would you be ready to take him? Maybe we could meet somewhere. If they all get along he can stay until Chickenstock though.

Thanks! When I was painting the coop I thought it would add a little color to the scheme. All of my chicks are too young to lay yet, but it will be very interesting to see if they do have a preference of color! Here is a better picture.

Where are you in SE MI. I live in SW MI. So, I could meet somewhere in the middle if we need to. How much would you like for him? Have you been to the chickenstock before? It is a great time. I so enjoy it. How old are the chicks now?

I am in Clay Township/Algonac area which is about 30 miles north of Detroit and south of Port Huron. I have never been to Chickenstock before. Planned on going last year, but my family vacation took precedence. I hear it's a great time and I'm really looking forward to it. I have the BR roo (maybe even both of them) plus one or two BR pullets and a couple of ISA Brown pullets to rehome. All of them were hatched around March 7, so that makes them 7 weeks this week. I may also have a Black Copper Marans roo to rehome by the time Chickenstock comes around. I just got 10 chicks and not sure how many roos I have in that bunch. Roos are hard to place, so if you will give him a good home, he's free to a fellow BYCer.

So ADORABLE!!! If your chickens are anything like mine, they will ALL want to lay in the same nest box. I'll have one girl in there and one standing right in front of her face giving her the "Hurry up already, I've got to lay too!" stare.
