Today I walked outside at 7.00 to my 3 month old barred rock rooster crowing for at least trying to crow my parents said they have heard it try to crow before but no attempt like this this was almost exactly like the classic rooster crow!! Does anybody know what is happening I thought roosters are supposed to crow at 5-6 months

Oh no, mine “ try” to crow very young . It is the best thing about many of the roosters I’ve had . The puberty crow will put a smile on your face every time , I can even try to do it myself :)

It’s normal, Some start early some start late. Some of my roosters started crowing at 3 months aswell, But usually those were the lighter breeds. But it happens all the time so I would say it’s completely fine. (But the crowing might be a pain).

Some chickens apparently have not read the chicken manual. They sometimes do what they want to do. For example, I have a very tiny bantam hen who crows. She is definitely a she, and she definitely crows. She apparent does not care what the chicken book says about hens and crowing. So I’d say, don’t worry about your rooster too much. Sounds like he just found his crow a little earlier than some. :)

I've got a 4 week old serama cockerel who's been trying to out-crow his father for a while now~ They can start crowing pretty early so I wouldn't worry or anything~
