I just adopted a bantam birchen cochin and his mate. He's a few years old, and crows when the sun comes up....and crows and crows and crows till noon. OK it's been light for hours now. What is he crowing about? I'm new at raising chickens and was wondering why roosters crow. I know about the light. Is he calling for something else? Is he claiming his property? Is there anyway to get him to stop crowing all morning long? Help!

Roosters crow in the morning just cuz. They crow throughout the day as a challenge to any other roosters in the vicinity, to announce their territory, to gather up the hens, sometimes when they just feel like it.
That's what roosters do. Most folks get used to it after awhile.

Yes there is a way to get him to stop crowing... Have him go live somewhere else! that's pretty much it. I had to rehome a silkie rooster last weekend. Yes he was small and what he lacked in size he made up for in attitude. wow was that small chicken loud!! it started a little after 5 am and went on and off all day.

Ous doesn't crow yet and we can't wait. I hope when he does start we don't get tired of it
