Rooster Dance

FWI, roosters do often look "mean" that is not just your roo. Try living with a Brahma rooster that has beetle brow really bad!😱

I loved Marion's "dinosaur" head.

Ooh - I do love Brahma roosters! Gorgeous!!!
:love

I only have experience with one rooster. He started out well, then hormones! He was hell on little legs for a few months. He's calmed down quite a bit. He gives me the stink eye whenever I'm in the coop or handling the girls, but he gives me space. And he's VERY vigilant. He is very alert to any threat: hawks, dogs, people, squirrels, falling leaves, helicopters, pinecones...

And he's itty bitty - not even 2 lbs. So even if he were mean, he'd be easy to handle.

When my rooster starting giving me his "fancy feet" it was a few short weeks before he started flogging me. Actually he is a cockerel and I got him for breeding purposes, so I am hoping he calms down but so far he's only gotten worse. He hatched in April 2020.
Flogging = bad. I'm not a breeder, but I don't know I'd breed a flogging rooster...

I am fully aware that flogging is bad. I plan on selecting the best of his male offspring to keep and nixing him. His breed is known for aggressive roosters so I am aiming to rectify that in my flock. He was raised by me, but his offspring will be raised with a hen which usually creates well-adjusted roosters. He is also one of two roosters, and bottom of the pecking order which contributes to his issues as well.

That makes so much sense. Like I said, I know basically nothing about breeding, so this is great info.
