I got up this morning to find my silkie rooster sitting on the ground away from all the other chickens. He was just sitiing there trying to balance hiself with his wings. The last month he hasnt look to good And he has become quite lathargic. He has been eating well and drinking. Im afraid he is paralyzed or dying. Can anyone help me?

Im sorry to say that my silkie rooster is dead. He hac a hard attack while asleep. I cant stop crying it is so hard to loss something you love. He was one of my favorite chickens. I miss him so much we buried him just a few minutes ago.

I'm actually wondering if anybody has any comments on what might have happened to your rooster... Which I am so sorry to hear about

I lost a seabright pullet, and she was the same way - lethargic, balancing with her wings...

So sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts to lose one you love so much. Wish I could help you know what might have happened, but I don't have a clue. Hopefully someone else will know.

I'm sorry for the loss of your boy. To help you from losing any more, now would be a good time to pick them all up and examine them.

Check their weight - make sure you don't feel their keel bone too prominently. Look at their skin, the shafts of their feathers, look really patiently and carefully for any movement of parasites. Especially around their neck and vents. Check their tushies and make sure you're not seeing any pasty vents or redness.

If you haven't wormed lately, I would consider if it's time especially if you're seeing a few thin birds. If you do, there are lots of good posts here on correct worming and as important, using probiotics afterwards to make sure their guts are in prime working order.

This is very very important. We'd like to see your flock in good running order and no more heartbreaks.

Take care.

p.s. If you start to even suspect another bird getting ill, check with the people here much sooner. There are so many people who are knowledgable and willing to help you out in a timely manner. It's a great board and you'll get lots of good help.

Thanks everyone. It was so weird going out to the chicken pen this morning and not seeing him waiting at the door. But I still am blessed with many more chickens. They seemed a little down this morning. The even left Puffdaddy a spot on the roost last night. It made me feel so bad they even miss him. When I let them out this morning the just stood there because Puffdaddy was always the first one out. I miss him so much!!!!!!
