So I got this beautiful boy,
roo.jpg

I was told he is about 8 months. He was with mature hens and likes them a lot i guess (probably just young roo hormones' craziness but we'll see), I miss calculated the age on my girls, I thought they were closer to 5 months but after I brought him home and put him in quarantine (hopefully for a few weeks just to make sure), i realized my oops. My girls are 2 months and 3 months. not 3 and 4 months like i thought! Now I'm worried that i might not be able to put him with the girls for a longer period of time and he's not eating a lot right now, i gave him some scratch and mealworms and he just took a couple pecks and then walked away. He's still very scared of me, and i don't want him to be so scared he wont eat. The weather turned super cold here too so that is not helping I think.

My concern is that since chickens are flock animals that he's becoming depressed. I don't see any signs of sickness but the not really eating. What are your thoughts? is this behavior or is it a sickness concern?

my girls about 2 weeks ago. they're a little bigger now.

any advice on how to help my beautiful boys is helpful!

Could you put him to where he can see them... just not get to them? The problem is he probably feels lonely. But his hormones will probably make him want to mate with the girls before they are ready.
Or find him one or two hens until yours are bigger.
He's a pretty boy!

Thank you everyone!!

Today he actually came up to me and i tossed some scratch to him, he growled but i just stood there, talked to him and watched him carefully. He hasn't come up to me yet so that is maybe an improvement? hopefully he won't be scared of me.

I might look around for a couple hens near me, this time of year is hard to find any, but if i put them in quarantine with him. :)
