rooster digging up nest for hens

Lately, my rooster has been digging up a nest for my hens. He diggs a nice hole and then sits inside it with his tail sort of arched vertically and pushed up against the corner. He just sits there then after a bit moves away for one of my hens to sit inside it. Im not worried, just curious as to what he's doing.
he looks so cute sitting in the hole .

He's trying to tell or show them that is a good place to lay an egg.

I had a cockerel who would do that. He would pick a nesting box and then the pullet would use it. It was very cute.

It is fun to watch, but what is funnier, is when the hen looks at it, and says, "Really, you think this will work? Huh!" and lays elsewhere. They really are better than TV.

that's so adorable.. except my pullets don't use it they sit there for a bit and run off to lay elsewhere

mine do that all the time! he digs up a nice spot, they sit in it for a while then decide its time to go and nest somewhere else XD
