Rooster Experts I Need Your Help!!!!!

Game crosses down south appear to a reputation for being much more aggressive than what I have seen. Does anyone with this problem keep pure games?

My experience with games indicates you can have fully mature gamecock and games hens co-mingle with production birds (i.e. barred rocks, Rhode Island reds, and white rocks) without deathloss of production roosters to the game.

Maybe hybrid vigor makes for a very nasty individual when some southern games crossed into some production breeds.

Thanks for your response. I really want to believe what you say is true. I would love to have them all out free ranging again. My assumption in the beginning of all this was that because Rebel was not full game he would not have the full attitude. the game hens I have came from a fighting organization. the hens are not aggressive at all towards the White Rocks, RIR's, Production Red's or BO's that I have. Neither Roo has showed any aggression towards me or any other bird. I read all the time about roo's attacking, mine have never even looked like they were going to attack. Both roo's are good protectors of the birds as far as sounding the alarm and pointing out found food. They flock towards me when i bring them treats or just walk outside.

here are the pictures you asked for.

I know little about chickens. I started this adventure about 6 years ago. Captain is the only original flock member I have.

Captain is still in the cage. I want his comb to heal before i put him in the coop with the girls. I am doing as geebs suggested and make sure he is at full health. He seems very alert, eating, crowing, his head just looks pretty beat up.

Thanks again everyone. I am taking all your comments seriously and my main objective is not to loose Captain. Rehoming Rebel is an option, but if circumstances change, I will need Rebel to protect the game birds (my red neck hens as i call them).

herefordlovinglady,

Rebel looks very much like what I invision my Missouri dominique to eventually look other than tail a little squirrelly (stands up too erect). I associate the squirrel tail look in a game with stressing situation. A full fan with top feathers at 45 degrees is what I like to see in a relaxed dominant bird.

If you attempt reintegration, make certain it is surpervised. I keep fighting games, one generation removed that is; and non-game birds can be integrated as subordinates. If Captain gives proper submission signals to dominant (Rebel or pure Game), it is likely aggression will be minimal. If and individual rooster is targeted for aggression by even a pure game, the former can get away in a free range setting. Eventually the game / agressive individual will loose interest, although occasional demonstration of dominance is to be expected.

alot of time a rooster will just give up when he is that old probably a way to get new blood in the flock
i have had a rooster that was 4 and he had a flock of 50 hens and 5 other roosters that he commanded the other roosters were two 1 1/2 three 7 monthes old roosters
one day he got into a fight with one of the 1 1/2yo rooster it lasted a long time(but i dont like to interfere with the pecking order) after the fight which he won another 1 1/2yo rooster took the oppertunity to take over he attacked the tired domanant rooster and after a couple of hits the young rooster beat him then all the roosters joined in and started beating it up

the rooster went from domanant to bottom of the rooster pecking order in 10 minutes
i had to get him out of there because i hated to see the great old rooster get whipped by those young inexperianced cocks
I also raise game chickens and they can be kept together until they are about 9 months but sometimes if it rains and they get wet and look different they will all start fighting because they dont reconize eachother

If you want your old rooster to be domanant take the other rooster away he probably cant beat him in a fight being as old as he is and the younger rooster is got gameblood in him
or you could separate you old rooster for a month or so(keep them out of sight of eachother) and they will "meet" again and fight and let the winner have the hens
nice game hen and the roosters look good too
what type of game are they???

game mixes will not fight to the death now a full game will fight to the death only if another rooster that is willing to fight to the death is with him if your game rooster wins the fight he will not kill the other just keep him in place by chasing him aroung occasionally
games that are crossed are not undefeatable a full game probably woulod fight until the non game gave up/i have had full games in a flock with other cocks all he did was beat them all then keep them in place like any other rooster would(my birds freerange so they have room to get away) game roosters are the only chickens i raise now because they are great strong birds that can basically live all by themselves
i like a rooster that will die protecting his hens.

I too have noticed the crazed flock wide fights that can take place with cockerels in the Autumn when they get rain drenched and no longer recognize one another. Used to cause sheer bedlam in my backyard when I had a semi feral flock of cross bred bantams.

I COMPLETELY agree. I had a 1/2 blood game that would relentlesly attack my new rooster(a BLR) within 2 min I removed the game, because he was so mean. I eventually moved him to another farm that had a whole bunch of games, and now peace has been reinstalled into my barnyard. Just my 2 cents

centrarchid- the reason that games dont fight to the death with production cocks is because the barred rocks cocks will give up after a quick fight thus the game is the domanant and will be head rooster.
pure game wont give up
mixed games will give up
