rooster fight - both lost

Our three roosters are all in makeshift pens. The last pen we added is made up of our dog's x-pen with plywood on top and vinyl tablecloth wrapped around the windy side. An old bean pole stuck through the wire makes a fair roost. Another rooster is in our baby chick pen with an old plastic dog house for shelter. The third is in our first chicken house (when we only had three) which was supposed to be easy to move around (but isn't). I blocked the open side with old fencing material and we put new wire fencing on it.
Once a week we let each rooster out an hour before sunset so he can roam and look for yummies. This keeps everyone safer.
Maybe this will give you some ideas on seperating your roosters.

It is also better to put a solid partition between them too. If they fight through the wire they can still inflict heavy damage and even kill each other. Plus you have the side effect of tearing up their feet and legs which takes a long time to heal.

I had a Malay and Phoenix break the welds on welded wire and get at each other. As with yours nobody suffered any ill effects but both did lose a little weight while they recovered. Both could barely see for a couple of days and they just hurt too bad to move much.

nnbreder, that is a good point. Mine are located apart from each other in the field, but when I let one out, he often gets into one of the caged roosters faces and the one with long wattles always looses. Now I have to go and cover Timmy's pen, when I let Otis out.
