Four days ago, while on vacation, my rooster was attacked by a dog, who pulled out all his tail feathers, possibly infected, picture showed some of his feathers turning green around the his skin which just showed up today, this is what I've been told by my volunteer. What can I put on his back to help it heal?

Hi, welcome to BYC!! Sorry this happened to you, hopefully it's not too deep of a wound. I would get some Vetericyn from your local feed store. It's a little pricey (like 20 bucks for a bottle), but worth it. It comes in a spray bottle and is safe for birds, it will disinfect the area and help him heal. Poor guy, I hope he makes it.

Thank you, I'll do that today....I'll keep you posted on the out come.

Please do :hugs Sending positive vibes from my coop to yours. The good news is chickens are pretty resilient.

Vetericyn is good to use, the green may be bruising, sometimes bruises will have a greenish tint. If there is infection you will likely see swelling, bad odor and/or pus.
Chlorhexidine is also good for cleaning wounds (Hibiclens - available at Walmart and most drug stores). I usually do my initial cleaning with chlorhexidine and follow with vetericyn after that.
It's always helpful to post a picture or two when asking about wounds or injuries as the picture can be worth 1000 words. Hope your roo recovers!
