Last night I dewormed all my birds with safeguard paste for horses. This morning, I went into the coop and one of my roosters is now lethargic, gurgling, and gaping a bit.
I put vet RX on his beak for now but am wondering if he had gape worms. He’s only about 7 months old and never showed the signs for them.
Would a dewormer do that?

I put his on a quarter of a grape cut in half so it would be bite-size and the amount that I put was about smaller than a pea size. What was recommended from videos that I saw it was the same amount that I gave all my other chickens, and they all seem to be doing fine.

For dosing, pea sized is not the best way to dose, explaination of why is here, posts #1, #2, and #3 in particular in this thread:

You are far better off using an oral syringe and measuring out the correct dose by weight for each bird, to avoid underdosing.
It's also possible that his issue is completely unrelated to the worming meds at all.
