Rooster has red raised strip

I have noticed that my rooster had a reddened butt just through the flashes that I could catch. He doesn't like to be caught. Anyway, I did take a look and it was just red. I had seen the hens kinda pick him here every now and then, it had never bothered him and thought if it did he would go at them as he does when he mates. I had kept an eye on it but from a far.

Now, I had realized that one of my hens had a dirty butt and when I looked it looked like the poop had stuck to the feathers and built up a little. So I cut it all out. Well, I decided to take a look at the others and she was the only one but when I got to the rooster and was going to check on the red spot I got to looking and farther down there is a narrow strip where the feathers are gone. It is red and raised. I don't know if this is skin or if this is something foreign. It ends where the feathers begin.

My rooster is the epitome of health and none of my other hens have this. WHAT could it be?????? I am so worried. I have not been home as much and haven't been able to check on them as much as I would like and now I feel awful.

Also, the area looked bumpy slightly and I don't know if this is just cause it is swollen and looks like that because that is where a quill should be or what. PLEASE PLEASE HELP

A picture would help, but until then, one thing is for sure....whatever it is, if it is red the others will peck it relentlessly. Even before you find out what it is, you need to protect him from further pecking. Isolate him, preferably within sight of the others so you don't have reintroduction problems.

Hopefully, you can get a pic up on this board so we can get a better idea of the problem.
