I don't think it's mites because I haven't seen any like when they have had them in the past but the hens have bald butts and legs and the rooster has it but it is very red. Any ideas what it is and how to treat for whatever it is?

There is an antiseptic spray you might try. You will have to catch each one and apply it to the bald area. We have used it with excellent results. It is "Blu-Kote Aerosol Wound Spray" available at Tractor Supply. You may have to do it more than once. Just be careful when you use it and don't get it on yourself or your clothing as it does stain. We keep it on hand to use on our chickens because anytime someone has a bald spot the others help it stay that way. Evidently they see red very well.
